BDF Status channel

Dear,

can you please tell me, does BDF file must contain STATUS channel?
If I load BDF file by using EEGLAB, does always last channel represents STATUS channel?

BDF specs do not require the last channel to be the status channels, but all BDF files generated by BioSemi ActiView software have the last channel as status channel.
