Spikes and sudden changes on particular electrodes indicate pollution of the tips with non-silver traces of metal. Clean the tips with sand paper and soak in salt water for a few hours. Be careful to prevent the tips from touching metal objects.

Maintenance of active electrodes
Hi, in the manual from http://www.cortechsolutions.com/getmedia/ded3f9ec-2526-4783-8b0a-da5a330faf1b/Operating-ActiveTwo.aspx, it suggests to soak the electrodes in salt water once a week or before each use. (“Soak in salt water once a week or before each use for up to 5 minutes at a time.”)

Conflicting Advice Regarding Regular Salt "Baths"
... Recently, we added an additional lab, and the technician who came out to help install it recommended that we regularly (every two weeks or so) soak our electrode braids for five minutes or so in a salt water bath. Ground electrode woes
... we have to send them away with no recording. Recently, we bought a second set of ground electrodes but we are now having the same problems with these. Can you advise about skin prep? Can you advise about cleaning? Should we routinely soak them in salt water even if they are new? Thoughts appreciated.
