Hi All,

Is it advisable to soak an electrode in salt water from time to time to keep it functioning?

Re: bucket testing new electrode sets

... and twining the wires.

Spikes and sudden changes on particular electrodes indicate pollution of the tips with non-silver traces of metal. Clean the tips with sand paper and soak in salt water for a few hours. Be careful to prevent the tips from touching metal objects.

Maintenance of active electrodes

Hi, in the manual from http://www.cortechsolutions.com/getmedia/ded3f9ec-2526-4783-8b0a-da5a330faf1b/Operating-ActiveTwo.aspx, it suggests to soak the electrodes in salt water once a week or before each use. (“Soak in salt water once a week or before each use for up to 5 minutes at a time.”)

Conflicting Advice Regarding Regular Salt "Baths"

... Recently, we added an additional lab, and the technician who came out to help install it recommended that we regularly (every two weeks or so) soak our electrode braids for five minutes or so in a salt water bath. However, between your manual and many other posts on these forums, it seems to me ...

Electrodes can be rinsed with tap water without any risk. As long as the ...

Noise should be below 10-20 uV peak-to-peak (0.1 - 100 Hz bandwidth).

- the pellets have to soak for 5-10 minutes before noise and offsets have stabilized to low values.
- use a sufficient amount of salt in the water (without salt, higher noise levels may be encountered), ras a rule of the thump ...

Ground electrode woes

... we have to send them away with no recording. Recently, we bought a second set of ground electrodes but we are now having the same problems with these. Can you advise about skin prep? Can you advise about cleaning? Should we routinely soak them in salt water even if they are new? Thoughts appreciated.
