upper limit for errors in electrode positioning

Post by rainman »

Hi,
I have a quick question about the tolerance in electrode positioning. We had an incident in the lab that one of our experimenters measured one of the subjects head 3cm less than his actual size. I have looked at the literature. There are a couple of papers indicating the importance of positioning and how results differ by any small deviations, but mainly for ERP and localization studies. We are just looking at the power in certain bandwidths such as alpha. We have been using 4 channel on the Center Z line. My understanding from the literature is that 1cm displacement can be acceptable. However, I don't have a concrete base for that. I would appreciate any of your comments.
Best!
