Does ActiView work in Windows 10?

Microsoft seems to be pushing its Windows 10 upgrade to the computer we use for running ActiView so aggressively (daily popup messages, Win 10 downloads that start automatically, etc...) that I'm afraid we'll end up upgrading to Windows 10 by mistake at some point...

ActiView and RTE 8.6.1 do work under Window 10.

USB-receivers with the most recent firmware version are compatible with Windows 10. It is not necessary anymore to manually install USB drivers: Windows detects the USB-receiver when it is connected, and installs the drivers automatically. USB-receivers with the latest firmware are labeled (underside) with "firmware 4.0" (receivers delivered after February 2016).

Older USB-receivers can be upgrade with the tool available at http://www.biosemi.com/download/programmer-usbV40.zip .

Note: the upgrade MUST be done on a working system with installed drivers (Vista, Win7 or Win 8, data acquisition with ActiView must be able to run).

Warning: do not connect an USB-receiver with older (before 4.0) firmware to a Windows 10 computer (the driver will then stop working and has to be uninstalled manually before a USB-receiver with 4.0 firmware will be able to reinstall the drivers).

We have an older USB receiver (delivered before Feb 2016). So, if we want to upgrade to Windows 10 we should first upgrade the firmware of the USB receiver in a working Windows 7 system (with drivers and ActiView installed) using this tool:
http://www.biosemi.com/download/programmer-usbV40.zip

are there other instructions for the firmware upgrade? I suppose the amplifier needs to be turned on during the procedure?

I think I'll stay away from the Win 10 upgrade as far as I can, but it's good to know the steps to follow just in case.

Kind regards,

Sam

Just use the amplifier and ActiView to ensure that the old USB driver is installed and running OK (switch ON amp without any electrodes connected, test that ActiView runs and acquires data). The upgrade tool uses the old driver to upgrade the firmware.

Close ActiView and switch OFF amplifier (or disconnect optical fiber) before running the upgrade tool.

You can already upgrade the firmware now, the upgraded USB-receiver will continue to work with the old (VISTA, W7 or W8) setup.

We recommend to put a label (e.g. "firmware 4.0") on the upgraded USB-receiver to prevent confusion in the future.

Thanks again for the instructions. I upgraded the firmware today. During the procedure a DOS prompt opened up saying:

"""
connected
second-stage loader loaded
FX2: config = 0x01, connected, I2C = 400 kHz
Programming successful
Please disconnect and reconnect the USB-Receiver. Press enter to exit.
"""

After disconnecting and re-connecting the USB receiver I started ActiView, and it seems to be acquiring data normally. I assume that the update was successful and that now it would be safe to upgrade to Windows 10.

Yes, you can upgrade to Win10 now. During the upgrade, the old drivers will be uninstalled, and the new ones are then installed when you plug in the USB-receiver with the new 4.0 firmware.

Dear Forum,

I have an issue with installing driver on windows 10. Unfortunately, I had connected USB receiver with older firmware (<4.0) to a system. Then, I've done everything what is described in the post.
I've updated the firmware on win 7 with success and uninstalled previous driver from windows 10 using device menager (Device menager -> right click on the receiver -> uninstall -> reboot system). However, when I plug the receiver, windows 10 installs the driver but it doesn't work correctly (in device menager there is information that the driver is not installed ).

I would appreciate if someone could help me ;)

Best regards,
Tomasz

Can you roll Win 10 back to a pre driver install restore point?

Can you execute this http://www.biosemi.com/download/remove- ... r-V032.rar with admin rights?
This should remove the registry entry's for a failed driver install of the usb receiver (firmware<4.0).

Procedure:

1) unplug receiver
2) run above tool
3) reboot computer
4) plug in receiver

Gerben
