Persistent connection issue with New USB2 Receiver (Win11)

Post by tim.clarity »

Hi ! Proud owner and primary operator of a 64+8 ActiveTwo Mk2 EURO, plus the "New USB2 Receiver (Shipped since March 2022)." The USB2 Receiver is always problematic when it comes to the "first time" connection upon unplugging. This is tough because we have to move the computer from one part of the office to another in order to test.

A bit more info: on any "first attempt" to connect our Actiview computer (Windows 11 Pro 22H2 64-bit, x64). In the Device manager, we can more-or-less consistently see communication to RECEIVER03, but the Serial port (COM03, Baud Rate = 115200, Append Nothing, Hex View) is *very* inconsistent, and we can only sometimes get it to reappear with some seemingly random combination of un-plugging, re-plugging, and restarting if we are lucky.

Is this a known issue with The new USB2 box and Win11? The ActiView info and other software luckily work perfectly fine, so long as the USB2 box can be connected properly.

Cheers for any insight,
Tim @ Chief Data Scientist, Clarity Technologies

The serial COM port is only used by the USB-->Parallel trigger interface (https://www.biosemi.com/faq/USB%20Trigg ... 0cable.htm), it has nothing to do with the USB receiver (https://www.biosemi.com/receiver.htm). Without the COM port active, the ActiveTwo system works and receives triggers, but you cannot sent triggers with your simulation program. The USB trigger interface may be defect.

Yes, however it's not the trigger sending software that is the issue, it is the ability of the computer to detect that the 37 pin Sub-D Connector <---> Trigger-sending computer connection

If I understand correctly, ActiveTwo acquisition and trigger generation run on the same computer, and both the USB-receiver and USB-trigger-interface connect inconsistently. The two USB devices work independent of each other. It is unlikely that both USB devices are defect, so I suspect a computer problem.

I think you do not mean the USB Receiver, but you mean the BioSemi USB Trigger Interface.

The USB Receiver is plug-and-play. No configuring, no serial COM addresses, and no drivers, it always works, also at the first attempt.
I think you are referring to the BioSemi USB Trigger Interface.
The BioSemi USB Trigger Interface has a serial port indeed.
Every time the BioSemi USB Trigger Interface is connected, Windows will give it a Serial port. And indeed, every time this can be another serial port.
If you want to generate triggers at 2 different locations, and since the BioSemi USB Trigger Interface only costs 100 Euro, I would like to advise you to simply buy another BioSemi USB Trigger Interface to solve your problem of wanting to use 1 BioSemi USB Trigger Interface for 2 different locations.
