Intermittent Error 5000

Hello,

We are currently experiencing an intermittent error with our ActiView software (version 7.05 on a laptop running on Windows 7) and/or ActiveTwo Base System.
As we collect data, recordings can be interrupted after a while, with the following error message on Actiview : "Error 5000 occured at No Incoming Data - Possible reason(s) : ADC-box power is Off or Optical fiber is disconnected". We have experienced this issue quite often in the last weeks (approximately in 2 out of 5 recordings, with recording durations between 15 - 60 minutes).

- We have tested the two batteries, fully charged, the problem occurs with either of them
- We have tried to replace our optical fiber with a new one, and had the same error.
- In one of the case the error occured, the green USB data collection light was off, unplugging and replugging the USB cable solved the issue. In all other cases the experimenters did not notice whether the green lights were on or not on the USB Receiver, they just re-started acquisition and it worked.

I would be very grateful if you could help me with this issue.
Best regards

Juliette

Dear Juliette,

If the acquisition stops, then first always check if the green power LED on the AD-box is on of off.
Assuming that the batteries are working (green LED on the battery is on)
If the acquisition stops and the green power LED on the AD-box is off, then there is a situation is described here:
https://www.biosemi.com/faq/AD-box%20sh ... 0stops.htm

If the acquisition stops and the green LED on the AD-box is on, then there can be several reasons:
- optical fiber link not working properly (dirt in fiber connector or broken fiber)
- PC is not fast enough to keep up with the incomming data (in Actiview then the rotating green arrow will not be able to keep up with the red arrow)
- PC runs software (for example virus scanner) that temporarily puts heavy stress on the PC causing the acquisition to stop.

Best regards,

Dear Robert,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I am actually pretty sure that my AD-Box is working well - the LED are always on.
There was actually a mistake in my last message (now modified) : i was talking about the USB Receiver, not the AD-box. Indeed, i noticed that when the Error 5000 occurs (No Incoming Data), the USB data LED remains green, while it should normally turn off. Then, as long as this LED is green, i can't restart the acquisition. Unplugging and replugging the USB cable seems to solve the problem, as it resets the USB Receiver (USB data LED turns off).

I have tried to replicate the problem with my two different batteries, but it seems that it occurs only with one of them (battery 1). To be more precise, the error occured with battery 2 too, but i suspect it was only because i used battery 1 before, had the error and did not reset the USB Receiver.

Do you think the problem could be due to the USB Receiver and / or the battery 1 ?
As you suggest, I will also check my computer's performance.
Thank you again for your help,

Best
Juliette

Dear Juiliette,

Has your USB Receiver got firmware version 4.0?
If not, then please update your USB Receiver to firmware version 4.0 as described here:
https://www.biosemi.com/faq/install_USB.htm

Best regards,
Robert
