I think you should try to get the source of the problem fixed not filtering the data. DC drifts will occur only if preparation is not done in an appropriate way or sweating artifacts may cause the drifts. DC recordings require some patience as well after inserting the gel. Drifts are best to be avoided during recording, you are right. (GiGo)
But it might be possible that you are processing the data wrongly. Which program are you using and at which stage of processing are you filtering? (Wrong baseline? Filtering epoched data?Slope?)

Pin broken? As long as there is a signal - fine. Wire broken? Send it back...
