Connecting two BioSemis to one subject

Post by amatra »

We want to collect EMG and EEG data from one subject. The EMG data will be collected at 16kHz with the HD array, whereas the EEG will be the standard 64 electrode cap at 2kHz. I read here that the boxes can be concatenated with speedmodes set to 0-3, however this wouldn't work for different sampling rates, right?
Can we just connect the two systems as if they were independent, each one with its own CMS/DRL references, and synchronise them using external triggers?
Many thanks

There are 3 options:

1) Use the daisy chain option with 2 kHz sample rate for both AD-boxes (daisy chain two synchronized AD-boxes, acquire all channels on a single PC, store data in a single file)

2) Use two unsynchronized separate systems, EMG on 16 kHz, EEG on 2 kHz, acquire with two separate computers, use triggers to synchronize the two data files off-line.

3) Upgrade to highspeed firmware, use one system for both EMG and EEG with a maximum of 256+8 channels on 8 kHz or 128+8 channels on 16 kHz.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I think option 2 is the fastest to try for now, we just needed to make sure there would be no issues with having two references on the same participant.

Best regards,
Ana
