Cleaning Electrode

We have been cleaning the electrodes with filtered water. However, our campus recently installed a reverse osmosis filter. Would it be better (or worse?) to use the reverse osmosis water to clean the electrodes?

In our experience normal (clean, drinkable) tab water is good enough. I would not know any objections against reverse osmosis water.

Santa Barbara has unusually hard water (a lot of calcium). Would this make a difference regarding the use of tap water?

No problems due to cleaning the electrodes with hard water were ever reported to us.

Hi Coen,

I was reading the instruction sheet sent with the system, and it not to let the electrodes dry with gel/salt/minerals. Given that there is a high mineral content in our water, we had assumed that it would be problematic to use tap water, so we have been using filtered water instead. Hence, my question.

But, it sounds like the answer is that you guys haven't ever worried about what sort of mineral content is in the water, so anything should be fine.
