USB Box

Post by EEGLabPell »

Hi,
we have encountered a problem with a previously running system (but it hasn't been used in a couple of months)- maybe someone can help: when we tried to start the data acquisition with ActiView, we got the error message 5000. However, our fiber cable is connected properly to the USB box (and we doublechecked the cable on another system and it works), and the AD Box is turned on. We tried different USB ports/cables and two different computers (it used to work on the first computer). Does anyone have advice on how to fix the problem, that is, can we, for example, verify that the USB receiver box is working properly. Also note that we managed to update the firmware in the receiver (which suggests that the connection works).

Given you have another (working) ActiveTwo system, I would suggest to swap the USB receiver. If the USB receiver from the other system works, then sent the non-working USB receiver for repair to your local BioSemi representative. If the USB receiver form the other system doesn't work either, then swap the other components to locate the error. If the problem is in the PC, then the first thing to check is whether the USB driver is properly installed (should be listed as "BioSemi USB" in the Device Manager).

The "optic link" LED on the USB receiver should be ON when the AD-box is ON (indicates that data is received)
The "USB link" LED on the USB receiver should go ON when the "START" is pressed in ActiView (USB transfer started). The LED goes off when an error pops up in ActiView (USB transfer stopped). If the LED doesn't even blink (USB transfer not started), then the most probable cause is a driver problem.

Best regards, Coen (BioSemi)

Thanks for your reply. In fact, we have access to another system with which we tried to specify if the optical fiber cord works or not, but this system is not USB (this is installed in the desktop computer). In fact, The "optic link" LED on the USB receiver goes on when the AD-box is on but the "USB link" LED on the USB receiver does NOT go ON when "START" is pressed but is only on if the optic fiber is not connected... As I said, we installed the newest driver... Any advice? Thanks, silke

Do you hear a "plong" sound when you plug in, or unplug the USB cable at the receiver ?

Is "BioSemi USB" listed in the Windows Device manager (should appear when the USB cable is plugged in the receiver, should disappear when the USB cable is unplugged) ?

The two tests above indicate whether the driver is working properly.

Thanks, we can then be pretty sure that the driver is correctly installed.

Just to be sure, I recommend to test a last time with a complete working front-end (your older optical fiber AND AD-box, not necessary to connect any electrodes for a basic test). If the error remains, than I see no other option than to sent your USB receiver to your local BioSemi representative for checking/repair/replacement.

Make sure that the speeedmode on the AD-box (old and new) is set a 4, 5, 6 or 7.

Best regards, Coen
