I have been experiencing a weird problem with the USB receiver. On several random occassions, an error message appears saying that the ADC box is off or optic fibre is disconnected. But the ADC box is still on and the optic fibre is still intact (in fact on the USB receiver, the LED next to the optic fibre is on while the LED next to the USB port is off).

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any suggestion of what might have gone wrong?

We have seen this problem with a few USB cards (particular with VIA chipsets). The problem can be solved by installing a Windows patch from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822603, followed by un upgrade of the receiver firmware with the special utility available from http://www.biosemi.com/download/USB%20d ... e_V1.1.zip

Hello,

We are working on Win2000 (so the KB822603 patch should not be needed) and have upgraded the firmware with USB_firmware_update_V1.1.zip.

But the error 5000 still appears from time to time. Do you have more information about that ?

The motherboard is an Asus A7N8x-E Deluxe (nForce2 Ultra 400), if that helps.

The BioSemi USB drivers are designed only for Windows XP. We have not tested the drivers with Windows 2000, we can not advise in case of trouble.

Thanks a lot for your support Coen

. It is not written explicitely that Windows 2000 is not a supported product! We spent 40'000 euros for a non supported product, that's great.

We also have tested it on two another Windows 2000 machine (one with success: no errors 5000; the acquisition didn't start on the second). So it seems that this is the USB chipset, not the operating system that have problems...

It is mentioned both on our website and in the manual that the USB drivers only work under Windows XP.

The "no incoming data" problems are caused by a combination of chipset and operating system. There do indeed seem to be a few chipsets that work OK under W2000. However, it is unlikely that we can build a reliable driver working with ALL chipsets under W2000 (because Microsoft does not provide the USB2 update like they do for XP). Anyway, we are not prepared to develop seperate USB drivers for older Windows versions. You will have to upgrade to Windows XP.

We upgraded our machine from Windows 2000 to Windows XP SP2 and installed the firmware upgrade (but not the proposed windows XP patch, which should be included in SP2).

Result: no more Error 5000 (tested for about 45 minutes of measurements on a 64 channels ActiveTwo)! Great!

Previously, we had a try under Windows 2000 with an add-on USB2.0 card from NEC (i.e. not the default USB2 port of our Asus A7N8x-E Deluxe nForce2 Ultra 400 motherboard) which reduced the Error 5000 rate but not really corrected the problem...

Thanks for the feedback.

Just one further comment: the firmware upgrade is only necessary for USB receivers delivered before May 2004. The later batches are already programmed with the current V1.1 version.
