Hello Graham,
I'm glad to hear you like it.
If your goal is just hobby/fun, then go with solution #2.
If, on the other hand, you want to create a more serious application that also can be used for research,

Hello Qian,
EDFbrowser is more a general viewer. It has some filters, tools and converters but nothing particular for GSR.

Re: Converting bdf file configuration post-hoc
No need to split and merge your file.
EDFbrowser has a tool to reduce the number of channels in your file.
It has also a tool to (safely) edit the header (signallabels), regardless the size of your file.

I'm not completely sure if I understand you well, but what you might need is the "Print to BDF" function in EDFbrowser.
Display the (derivated) signal and go to File -> Print -> to BDF.

You can use the EDF/BDF -> ASCII converter in EDFbrowser.
The resulting CSV file can be opened in excel.

EDFbrowser & annotation editor
EDFbrowser has got an annotation editor.
You can add, remove and edit annotations/events.
Old-style BDF-files can be edited as well, they will be saved in BDFplus-
format which is backward-compatibel with BDF.
It is available for download here:
http://www.teuniz.net/edfbrowser/
Regards.

I made a programming library for C/C++ for reading EDF/EDF+/BDF/BDF+ files.
You can find it here:

I tested it with GCC on Linux and MinGW on windows xp.
Maybe somebody can test it with ms visual c compiler?
